PhD: Geology or Geophysics

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship supported by a Mayflower Scholarship in Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton. Mayflower Scholarships provide full support of fees, student grant and some research support. Due to funding restrictions the scholarship is available only to United Kingdom and European Union citizens.

We are seeking a geology/geophysics graduate with a research interest that aligns with the research themes and staff interests in Ocean and Earth Science (Web Pages).
Applicants should have a good upper second or first class honours degree in Geology or Geophysics, are expected to engage in research in one of our internationally-leading groups and also to assist in the School's teaching programmes, acquiring a combination of research and teaching skills that are highly valued by both the academic research and education professional economies.

Rules of the scheme: 
1. The student will be fully funded for 4 years and any UK/EU person will be eligible to hold a scholarship.
2. The student will receive subsistence at the level of £13k/year +all fees.
3. The main purpose of the scheme is to provide students with an opportunity to carry out research to PhD level in one of the world-leading research groups. The applicant therefore needs to satisfy the normal entrance requirements for the PhD programme.
4. The student will be expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching programme of the school.
