Position Description
The Laboratory for Matter Dynamics is recruiting a Ph.D. student to work on Fujitsu-High Power Computing Wales (HPCW) funded research activities starting October 2013.  The research will apply density functional theory (DFT) to understand bonding dynamics at polymer-carbon nanotube interfaces. Simulations will link to experimental data collected at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory and will make extensive use of HPCW facilities.
This project involves a strong collaborative with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the State University of New York at Buffalo. This research program is being designed in agreement with the Materials Genome Initiative paradigm. Exceptional candidates are sought with a strong background in materials science, theoretical physics, quantum chemistry and/or their computational specialties. Experience in simulation work within the frame of atomic physics is certainly a plus.  English fluency is an absolute requirement.
