PhD                                                                                                                                         Aug 13
Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion
Germany, Muelheim an der Ruhr
The Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim/Ruhr, Germany, investigates the fundamental chemistry of energy storage in chemical bonds. The department of molecular theory and spectroscopy, headed by  Prof. Frank Neese, is involved in the development of a large scale quantum chemistry program package (ORCA), with a traditionally strong aspect in the calculation of spectroscopic properties of transition metal compounds. The department of Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy invites applications for PhD Student Positions in Theoretical Chemistry

Successful applicants should hold an excellent degree in chemistry, physics, mathematics or biology. Spectroscopic, computational or synthetic chemists as well as method developers are equally welcome to apply. Candidates should have a strong background in Inorganic Chemistry of transition metals. They should be familiar with modern spectroscopic methods and their computational calculations, such as EPR, Moessbauer, MCD, resonance Raman, EXAFS. We expect a high degree of independence, creativity, commitment and team spirit.

The MPI CEC offers a stimulating, unique and highly interdisciplinary research environment. We host our own computer cluster and have a strong link to experimentally working groups, both locally and internationally. We further offer excellent supervision especially for PhD students, including scientific seminars on an advanced level. Further details about our research interests can be found on our website: www.cec.mpg.de

Salary is in accordance with the German state public service salary scale (TVöD-Bund) and the accordant social benefits, or by a grant of the Max Planck Society.
The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
If you are interested in working with us please send your complete application documents including CV, marksheets, letter of motivation and two recommendation letters to:
